I can’t remember the exact date when Viajarapie1 went live. If I trust my current registers, the oldest entries show October 20th but those registers were added manually when I moved to WordPress. It doesn’t really matter anyway, what I do remember is that sometime in the fall of 2004 I put online the first version of this website.

Original site looks

It was super-basic, plain HTML. I actually liked it that way because it reminded me my focus was on the actual content. By the time the new functional needs became too difficult for me to implement, I moved to WordPress and released the new site in 2015, which brings me to 2024.

According to my Admin panel, these 20 years have rendered almost 700 entries, more than 100 pages and above six thousand images in two languages. This latter figure, I’d already remember.

I just wanted to tell my stuff and a self-hosted blog looked like a good way, affordable and quick but with a long term purpose. Since 2004, network publishing has come a long way but self-hosted sites have stayed because they fill the niche better than anything else.

I look back and feel fine about what I’ve done in these 20 years. In 2024, my expectation is that I’ll keep Viajarapie alive as long as I have stuff I want to tell.
