"Viajar a pie" is Spanish for "Travelling on foot"

This entry is part 2 of 6 in the series Continental Divide Trail live

Three months and nearly two thousand miles after I started hiking on the Continental Divide Trail northern terminus in Waterton Park, I’m in Salida, Colorado. This trail is real hard work and it’s been only a few weeks since I feel like I’m finding my comfort zone within the hard work. Days are getting shorter and the Dawn-to-Dusk scheme is more necessary than ever before while all camp chores are by headlamp light and mornings get real chilly.

Wind River Range, Wyoming

I just love being on the trail, making it my home, feeling small in this grand scheme of things that’s the big hills around the North American spine. I sometimes hate you, Rocky Mountains, when you send me freezing rain every single day but I love you anyway.

Coming up is the San Juan Range in Southern Colorado, probably the most rugged and remote section of the whole thing, where impending winter decides whether south-bounders make it through or not. I can just hope the weather gods are with us.

A thousand miles and two months to go.
